MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) spotted at the eastern section of Mindanao may develop into a tropical depression within the next 36 hours, the state weather bureau said on Saturday.
The LPA will be locally called “Amang” once it develops into a tropical depression said Ezra Bulquerin, , Weather Specialist of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in a weather update.
Bulquerin said the LPA will bring moderate to heavy rains over the Caraga region, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Camiguin, and Misamis Oriental by Saturday afternoon until midnight.
It is also likely to make landfall over Surigao del Norte by Sunday evening as it develops into a tropical depression
Bulquerin, however added that the weather disturbance may immediately weaken into a LPA after making landfall at Surigao del Norte.
The LPA entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) at 10 a.m. of Saturday and was last spotted at 860 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. /muf
