Comelec eyeing 61 million ballots for 2019 polls
MANILA, Philippines – Around 61 million ballots will be produced by the Commission on Elections for the May 2019 midterm elections, Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said on Monday.
Jimenez said the commission might print at least 61 million ballots in anticipation for the high number of voters overseas.
“We expect that we will be printing somewhere around 61 million ballots and probably more because we also have to account for the ballots for overseas voting. We are looking at 1.7 million voters [overseas],” Jimenez said in a press briefing.
The Comelec set the election day for national and local positions on May 13, 2019.
It, however, has not yet released the official list of candidates.
In an earlier interview, Jimenez said that Comelec targets to release the official list of candidates before January 23./gsg
