Police hunt truck driver involved in hit-and-run incident

MANILA, Philippines — Police are on the hunt for the driver involved in a hit-and-run incident that killed two individuals in Valenzuela City.

Initial investigation Monday showed that on Sunday evening, a motorcycle vehicle driven by Romeo Escamate, 34, reportedly tried to overtake a truck along Dulalla Bridge in Lingunan, Valenzuela City.

Romeo, however, hit the left side portion of another motorcycle on the other side. This, according to police, resulted in the two motorcycles losing balance.

Due to impact, the motorcycle of Romeo hit the left side portion of the truck and fell into the pavement.

As a result, Romeo and his passengers, identified as Mark Robert Escamate and Mary Lord Escamate, were run over by the truck.

Romeo and Mark Robert sustained fatal head injuries from the accident that immediately led to their deaths. Mary Lord, meanwhile, was rushed to Valenzuela Medical Center for medical treatment after also sustaining injury.

Their motorcycle also incurred damages but police have yet to determine the amount of the damage.

Police have not provided further information on the identity of the truck driver and the vehicle’s plate number, but noted that the case was put for further investigation. /je
