Cardenas rectifies error in his record
Another erroneous internet entry resulted in a major shock during yesterday’s meet-up with 21-year-old Mexican boxing sensation Marcos “Geraldito” Cardenas.
Cardenas, who was previously reported as having a 12-win, 0-loss, 9-KO record, clarified yesterday that his official professional record is actually 19-0 (win-loss) with one draw and 12 KOs.
The undefeated Mexican will face young Filipino prospect Genesis “Azukal” Servania in the main supporting bout of the Pinoy Pride X at the Hoops Dome Lapu-Lapu this Saturday.
“Sometimes internet websites particularly boxing websites do not regularly update a boxer’s records. But we revealed it during negotiations with the ALA Promotions,” said Jesus Edmundo Gaytan, Cardenas’ trainer, manager and promoter during yesterday’s press conference at the Mooon Cafe in Asiatown IT Park.
Early this year, Jason Pagara suffered the same fate when the record of his Mexican opponent Rosbel Montoya was reported to be 12-2 (win-loss) when it fact it was 27-1 with 16KOs.
VERY PREPARED
The Servania-Cardenas battle is set for 10 rounds with the latter hoping to become only the second Mexican fighter to beat an ALA Gym boxer.
“We came here very prepared and I have been thinking about this fight for a long time,” said Cardenas.
Mexican boxers sport a, 1-13, win-loss record against ALA boxers with Montoya scoring the lone win when he beat Pagara.
Cardenas described himself as a technical boxer and at the same time a power puncher and said that he can win a knock-out against Servania who is fighting his second foreign opponent. “I think the knock-out can come in any round, I’ll just be patient,” added Cardenas.
The Sorona, Mexico-native Cardenas won three bouts this year including a Latin title eliminator but was cautious about Servania.
“Servania is a strong and a good boxer. But he is not the toughest boxer I faced. He is just an opportunity that comes my way,” said Cardenas.
Today, Cardenas and Servania will meet each other for the first time at the EGI Hotel in Mactan along with main event fighters Filipino IBF featherweight champion Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista and his opponent Miguel Angel Mendoza for the final press conference at 11 a.m.
