DOTr: Over 800 colorum vehicles apprehended in 2018

MANILA, Philippines — More than 800 colorum vehicles nationwide were apprehended by the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) in 2018, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has reported.

Colorum vehicles according to the DOTr are public utility vehicles (PUVs) that operate without franchises or are unregistered.

In a post on its official Twitter page on Thursday, the DOTr said a total of 846 colorum vehicles were apprehended from January to December 2018:

The DOTr reminded the public that the government could not regulate the safety standards and the fares of colorum vehicles.

DOTr also said there is no guarantee that colorum vehicles could be held accountable during accidents.

“Tandaan po natin na kung kolorum ang isang sasakyan, walang ahensya ng gobyernong nangangasiwa sa mga pamantayang pangkaligtasan, gayundin sa singil nito,” the DOTr wrote.

“Hindi rin ito tiyak na mapananagot oras na malagay sa aksidente, kaya walang maaasahang kagyat na tulong ang biktima o ang kanyang pamilya,” it added. /muf
