Deguito to appeal court decision convicting her of money laundering

MANILA, Philippines—Former RCBC Branch Manager Maia Deguito will appeal the Makati Court’s decision convicting her of eight counts of money laundering.

Atty. Demetriou Custodio said they will avail of all remedies to reverse the court’s decision from a motion for reconsideration to elevating it to the highest court.

Custodio said for now, Deguito will continue enjoying her provisional liberty.

“Until it reaches the SC (Supreme Court) we will continue to enjoy provisional liberty,” Custodio said.

He added that Deguito cannot be forced to pay the fine of over P100 million.

“The judge noted that the prosecution failed to prove that the amount ended in Maia’s account therefore she’s not liable to pay,” he added.  /muf
