In what can be considered as one of the strangest incidents to begin the new year, a man in California, United States was caught on surveillance video licking a doorbell for almost three hours.

Salinas Police Department is currently on the lookout for the suspect identified as Roberto Daniel Arroyo, 33, as reported by KION-TV yesterday, Jan. 8.

Aside from licking the doorbell for hours, Arroyo was also captured urinating in the front yard of the victim’s house. Police said the suspect also took an extension cord from the yard, however, the stolen item was found by the victim’s neighbors the next day.

Once found, he could face misdemeanor charges for petty theft and prowling, as per the report.

Sylvia Dungan was informed by the surveillance system of a movement by their house’s front door during the time she and husband Dave were out of town. Their children, who were at home at the time of the incident, were not roused by the noise.

Imagine their surprise then when they saw what the suspect did to their doorbell. They immediately contacted the police who quickly identified the victim, all thanks to the surveillance video.

“You kind of laugh about it afterwards because technically he didn’t do anything,” Dungan said in the report. “This just kind of reinforces how important it is to have security within your home.” Kate Matriano/NVG
