2 persons hurt, 34 houses razed in Davao City fire
DAVAO CITY — Two persons were injured and 34 houses were destroyed in a fire that broke out in a neighborhood of informal settlers in Toril district here Tuesday afternoon, fire authorities said.
Dante Tubig suffered first degree burns in the hand while Jessie Garcia, 59, had a cut on his right leg after the blaze that hit a cluster of houses along Waling-waling Street, Barangay Daliao at 12:52 p.m., according to Fire Chief Insp. Virnalita Silagan, acting Davao City fire marshal.
Initial investigation revealed that an unattended cooking stove at Tubig’s house ignited, starting the blaze that gutted 34 homes, mostly made of light, combustible materials, Silagan told Inquirer by text message.
She said firefighters were able to put the fire under control around 1:47 p.m. and was completely put out at 2:50 p.m.
About P400,000 worth of properties were lost, the fire official said. /atm
