MANILA, Philippines — The Tubigon port in Bohol reopened on Saturday after undergoing rehabilitation following a strong quake that hit the province back in 2013.

The reopening was announced by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) more than five years after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit Bohol in October 2013.

The DOTr said in a statement that the Tubigon port “now has an expanded capacity to accommodate up to 28 ships including larger vessels, nearly thrice its previous capacity of 10 ships.”
“It now boasts of 3 Ro-Ro wharfs for [the] docking [of] landing craft tanks (LCTs) and barges,” the department added.

The newly renovated port can now also accommodate around 4,000 passengers daily from the previous carrying capacity of 1,500 passengers.
Aside from this, the DOTr said that the terminal now also has a child care station facility, and improved security equipment including a baggage X-ray machine and a walk-through metal detector.
The Tubigon Port serves as a primary dock to vessels plying the Tubigon-Cebu City route. It is also an option for travelers planning their trips from Bohol going to Cebu and vice versa. /jpv
