‘2019 a crucial year, an opportunity to bring about change’

Filipinos should look at 2019 as a crucial year to bring about change in their everyday lives as they elect a new set of leaders during the midterm elections, opposition Sen. Leila de Lima said on Monday.

“Let us remember: 2019 will be a crucial year and an opportunity to change how we do things in government and in our society,” said De Lima, a fierce critic of the Duterte administration.

Scrutinize leaders

“In a few months, we will decide who will be leading us for another term. Let us scrutinize leaders on how they fulfill their duties, how they influence our youth, and choose those who deserve our trust,” the senator said.

De Lima said Filipinos would do well to act bravely in the face of familiar challenges.

“Although we may be leaving 2018 behind, the sad truth is, we will still be facing the same challenges this coming year. And if we do not find the courage, will and strength to change this course, we will suffer more and be afflicted with a worsening crisis of conscience and morality,” she said.
