Ham factory catches fire, 3 hurt

THREE persons were injured when the exhaust of a ham factory caught fire last Monday evening.

Dave Dungog, 34, and Teofilo Sebugero, 52, both employees of Belcris Foods Inc.  in barangay Alang-alang, Mandaue City, suffered slight injuries in the right foot, back and right hand while helping each other to douse out the fire.

SFO3 Alex Pacencia, the team leader of Mandaue City’s Bureau of Fire Protection also sustained a laceration in his chin when he fell from a refrigerated van where he was standing when responding to the alarm.

Paramedics on standby treated the victims.

BFP in Mandaue City was alerted by its counterpart in Cebu City about the fire at around 7:05 p.m.

A firetruck was immediately sent to the area.

SFO1 Arnold Lao, fire investigator, said the employees of the ham factory used fire extinguishers to put off the fire even before the firemen arrived.

Lao said the damage is negligible as no other structures or products were affected by the fire. /CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
