11 more persons injured due to fireworks in just 24 hours — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — Eleven more cases of fireworks-related injuries were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) within just 24 hours.

This latest figure almost doubled the 13 cases earlier recorded by the DOH for the past four days or from December 21 to 25, as it brought to 24 the total number of persons wounded due to firecrackers from December 21 to 26.

Specifically, the latest report of the DOH’s Fireworks-Related Injury Surveillance report showed that  22 cases were related to fireworks use while two cases were due to “fireworks ingestion.”

Of the 22 cases, five each were from National Capital Region (NCR) and Region VI; three from Region III; one each from Region IV-A, Region V and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM); four from Region VII; and two from Region IX.

Meanwhile, two fireworks ingestion cases were from NCR.

The recent victim of fireworks ingestion is a six-year-old male from Tondo, Manila, who swallowed a “pili cracker.” He is currently admitted at the UP Philippine General Hospital. /kga
