Students from public schools in Taguig did the city proud when they reaped awards in an international math contest held in India earlier this month.

Wally Santos of the Sen. Renato “Compañero” Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School won the silver medal and was named first runnerup in the Math Mania category of the 8th International Youth Mathematicians Convention held in Lucknow, India.

His schoolmate, Ma. Erica Therese Santos, and Sam Robertson Pelegrino of Upper Bicutan National High School, brought home bronze and silver medals, respectively, in the individual category.

Pelegrino and other Filipino contestants were the champions in the team category while another team led by Parul Gumarin of Taguig City Science High School placed second.

The Filipino students bested 500 other participants from 11 countries in the biennial competition.
