MMDA makes 2 announcement errors in 2 days
MANILA, Philippines — Oops, the number coding for private vehicles is not yet lifted on Dec. 31 and Jan. 2, 2019.
This was announced by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) less than six hours after it declared that the number coding scheme for private vehicles is lifted on the said dates.
In a text message sent by MMDA Spokesperson Celine Pialago to reporters on Thursday, the decision whether to suspend the coding on Dec. 31 and Jan. 2 is still “to be announced.”
Nevertheless, Pialago said that “if 31, as usual, is declared as Special Non-Working Day, coding is automatically lifted.”
In an earlier text message, Pialago said that suspension of coding for private vehicles would start on Dec. 24 until Jan. 2 next year.
The coding for provincial buses, meanwhile, remained suspended starting Dec. 21 until Jan. 2.
This was not the first time that the MMDA has taken back its initial announcement.
The MMDA recently said that the higher fines for violators of illegal parking started on Dec. 19, Wednesday.
However, on the day of the supposed implementation, MMDA General Manager announced in a press conference that the start of the implementation would be next year, Jan. 7.
