MANILA, Philippines — Mincing no words, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian branded the controversial Road Board on Thursday as “one of the most corrupt agencies.”
Gatchalian’s comment was in response to Senator JV Ejercito’s post on Twitter.
“Ano kaya ang meron sa Road Board? Hmm…” Ejercito said, reacting to a news report of House Majority Leader Rolanda Andaya’s insistence that President Rodrigo Duterte could not abolish the Board.

Commenting on Ejercito’s post, Gatchalian said: “The Road Board is one of the most corrupt agencies.
“Naging personal kitty na yan ng mga officials. Walang accountability,” Gatchalian added.
The Senate and the House of Representatives are in collision over the proposed abolition of the Road Board after the latter approved a bill on it, only to rescind it later.
Despite the House’ withdrawal of the bill, the Senate proceeded to adopt the House’s original approval of the bill so the President can sign and implement the abolition of the Board.
Through Republic Act No. 8794, the Road Board was created to ensure the efficient management of the motor vehicle user’s charge (MVUC), also known as “road user’s tax.”
The funds collected should be earmarked for maintenance and improvement of the country’s roads, drainage and road safety devices. /je
