Cops to search ‘chop shop’ of stolen vehicles

THE Southern Police District (SPD) expects to retrieve more stolen vehicles at a suspected “chop shop” it raided last week in a Taguig City warehouse where a van that had been hijacked in Laguna was recovered. In a phone interview yesterday, Senior Superintendent Federico Castro said the raid conducted by a composite team of operatives yielded enough evidence to support their suspicion that the warehouse in Barangay Tipas was being used as a safe house where trucks stolen in the Calabarzon region could be taken apart. “With the recovery of five vehicles, four of which were placed on the alarm list, we suspect that there are more vehicles in the warehouse,” said Castro, the Southern Police District deputy director for operations. On Friday, police recovered the truck of Samuel Orendain who reported its loss to the Laguna police. A global positioning system device in the truck allowed the police to track it down. With a search warrant, operatives of the SPD, Laguna Provincial Police Office, Taguig Police station, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Highway Patrol Group raided the warehouse owned by Anlud Metal Recycling Corp. on Daang Manuso in Taguig City on Friday night.
