Palace: Duterte to sign any bill legalizing medical marijuana

MANILA, Philippines – The stand of President Rodrigo Duterte on the legalization of medical marijuana has not changed and would sign any bill that would legalize it, Malacañang said Tuesday.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo reiterated that Duterte wants the legalization of cannabis for medical use.

“He’s in favor of limited use of marijuana, logically then he will support and sign any bill that would be consistent with his stand,” Panelo said in a Palace briefing.

The Palace official’s statement came a day after Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray said she was in favor of legalizing marijuana for medical use and not for recreational purposes.

Panelo reiterated that the ”statement of Catriona could have been influenced by the President’s decision on that matter.”

“Since the President already made a statement that he’s in favor of limited use of marijuana, logically then he will support and sign any bill that would be consistent with his stand,” he said.

In previous press interviews, Duterte said he was in favor of legalizing medical marijuana.  /muf
