1 killed, 20 hurt in Sultan Kudarat highway mishap

ISULAN, SULTAN KUDARAT– A jeepney driver was killed while 20 passengers were hurt when a multi-cab he was driving collided head on with a double cab truck along the national highway here Monday morning.

In a statement, the Isulan municipal disaster risk reduction and management council (MDRRMC) said the incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. in Barangay Impao, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.

Supt. Aldrin Gonzales, of the Philippine National Police-Region 12, said the passenger jeep was heading toward Esperanza town, also in Sultan Kudarat, when it crashed head-on with the double cab truck from Cotabato City heading to General Santos City.

Gonzales said the jeepney driver was pinned to death. His identity was being withheld until his family is officially informed.

The wounded were rushed to the Sultan Kudarat provincial hospital here.

Traffic investigators said human error caused the mishap even as investigation on the incident is still ongoing. /kga
