2 dead, 1 hurt in Lucena road collision

LUCENA CITY – Two motorcycle riders died and another was hurt in a road accident in this city Saturday night, police said.

In a report, Supt. Reydante Ariza, Lucena police chief, said a Mitsubishi Montero collided with a motorcycle with three men riding together along the road in Barangay (village) Ibabang Talim at about 8:30 p.m.

The Montero driven by Felino Vendiola was overtaking another vehicle when it crashed into the the motorcycle driven by Merlito Cabral, 39, police said.

The police said the sports utility vehicle dragged the motor bike for several meters before stopping.

Cabral and back-rider Ernesto Vinta Jr., 34, died while being taken to separate hospitals.

The other motorcycle rider, Milbert Obien, sustained injuries and was taken to Lucena United Doctors Hospital for treatment. /cbb
