Nearly 8,000 policemen will be deployed by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) to ensure the safety of the public during the Christmas season.

NCRPO chief Director Guillermo Eleazar said on Saturday that 7,823 policemen would be assigned in different strategic areas in Metro Manila to make sure that the people going out to shop or just having a family time are safe from crooks.

“Itong buong Paskuhan na ito, sa amin pong deployment, we will be utilizing around 7,823 police personnel,” Eleazar said in an interview on dzMM.

The statement of Eleazar came one day before the start of the annual Simbang Gabi where Catholic faithfuls are expected to flock in various churches for the nine-day pre-dawn mass.

Out of the total number of deployed policemen, Eleazar said that more than 1,000 policemen would be utilized to secure churches nationwide as Simbang Gabi starts.

“Starting tomorrow, simula ng Simbang Gabi, magdedeploy tayo, base doon sa consolidation ng mga personnel na ating mga gagamitin, specifically for the 290 places of worship or Churches, we will be deploying more than 1,000,” he said.

Despite the high police visibility within the area of Churches, Eleazar said that police personnel would also be deployed to monitor the security on plazas and terminals across the country.

He also said that more than 4,000 policemen would still be deployed for the anti-criminality operations during the holiday season. /jpv
