2 robbers slain in shootout with Laguna cops

MANILA, Philippines–Two robbers were killed following an encounter with police officers in Calamba, Laguna early Saturday.

Initial investigation by the Calamba police showed that the incident happened after several police officers were conducting patrol in Barangay Makiling in Calamba to conduct a follow-up investigation regarding a vehicular accident.

However, while conducting their follow-up, Fidel Urutia Jimenez approached the patrol car of the policemen and asked for assistance. He said he was a victim of robbery gang members who just recently fled with all his belongings.

According to Jimenez, two armed male robbers on board of a color orange motorcycle forcibly took his cash and personal items before speeding away.

The police officers then launched a hot pursuit operation leading them to the whereabouts of the robbers.

Police said that the two robbers opened fire upon seeing the pursuing lawmen.

The policemen returned fire wounding both of the armed men, who were later rushed to the JP Hospital. However, the robbers, whose identities remained unavailable, were declared dead on arrival. /jpv
