After almost six decades on the drawing board, the 7.11-kilometer Katipunan Avenue extension project will finally push through.
The P90-million project aims to decongest traffic in the area, including the Batasan-San Mateo Road.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System recently signed a memorandum of agreement to proceed with the road extension project.
Public Works Secretary Mark A. Villar signed on behalf of DPWH, while Administrator Rey Velasco signed for MWSS. The signing was held at the MWSS head office in Balara, Quezon City.
Velasco said the road project suffered delays due to right-of-way problems. Many of the properties were owned by private individuals.
Villar revived the road extension project, which has been in the doldrums for 58 years, to address the worsening traffic congestion in Metro Manila, particularly along Katipunan Ave. and Commonwealth Ave., both in Quezon City.
