Fireman helps deliver premature baby in Sultan Kudarat

TACURONG CITY — His job is supposed to put out a fire but on Thursday night, when an emergency call came at the city disaster office here, Fire Officer 1 (FO1) Ralph Bajit responded to help deliver a baby.

Bajit, who worked for the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here, said the disaster office received a call about a woman having difficulty delivering her baby in Barangay San Pablo, Tacurong City.

When the firemen arrived at the scene, the baby was already halfway out of his mother.

Bajit, a nurse, quickly cut off the umbilical cord and rushed the mother and child to the hospital at 7 p.m. Thursday.

He said they learned that the baby, a boy, was only six months old. “I hope the baby survives,” he said.

“We thank the concerned citizen for informing us quickly, we all saved the mother and her child,” he said.

In Pigcawayan, North Cotabato, a 17-year-old high school student admitted throwing her newly born baby boy into the river to avoid humiliation.

The municipal health office said some passersby found the baby floating in a river in Barangay Poblacion 3 at 7 a.m. Thursday.

The girl admitted it was her baby, adding she did it to keep her unwanted pregnancy from her mother and boyfriend.
