BAGUIO CITY — An imam (Islamic scholar and preacher) was shot dead Thursday by a lone gunman on Kayang Street near the public market here.

Bedijim Abdullah, 55, was walking on the busy street when the gunman approached and shot him twice in the head and thrice in the chest. He died instantly.

The suspect fled toward T. Alonso Street where he threw his gun at a stall at Maharlika shopping complex. The gun backfired as it hit the ground and wounded a saleslady.

Abdullah served as a Muslim cleric at the Philippine Military Academy. — KARLSTON LAPNITEN
