On the commemoration of the 115th birthday of Andres Bonifacio, senators have called on Filipinos to exemplify the patriotism of the Supremo who never bowed to the powers that be.

Born on Nov. 30, 1863, Bonifacio was the founder and eventual Supremo or leader of the Katipunan, a secret society that triggered the 1896 revolution against the Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines.

In a statement on Friday, Senator Leila de Lima stressed on the need to exemplify Bonifacio’s principles by opposing the wrongdoings in government and fighting for human rights and sovereignty.

The detained opposition senator also dared Filipinos to scrutinize today’s leaders.

Meanwhile Senator Joel Villanueva took to Instagram his message for the “Father of the Philippine revolution.”

“Let us exemplify Bonifacio’s love for our country that freed our nation from colonial rule and granted us independence. Mabuhay si Gat Andres Bonifacio!” he wrote.

Senator Grace Poe likewise urged the people to honor Bonifacio through love and compassion.

/muf
