Gary V leads outreach in Albay hometown

CAMALIG, Albay – Singer-songwriter Gary Valenciano on Thursday led a humanitarian group in holding an outreach program in his hometown, benefiting thousands of residents in the two-day activity.

Valenciano, together with the Shining Light Foundation, partnered with Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines  (OBFP) in conducting a medical, dental and optical services, wheelchair donation, feeding program, school supplies distribution and a Superbook film showing on Wednesday and Thursday at the Camalig North Central School here.

OBFP provided free medical check-ups, dental and optical consultations to 500 patients. The outreach program also gave 34 wheelchairs to persons with disabilities.

Valenciano also gave a mini concert where he sang five songs from his new album “Awit at Laro” to hundreds of school children.

Valenciano will hold a concert at 6 p.m. Friday at a mall in Legazpi City business district.

John Tan Chief Operation Officer of Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) Asia said in an interview that the OBFP has been conducting at least 30 missions all over the country since 1996. Three of these were held in Albay.

”Our first visit was when Mayon volcano erupted in the 1990s, then it was followed by the medical and relief operation in 2006, when Typhoon “Reming” hit Bicol and recently during the Mayon eruption in January this year,” Tan, the producer of the 700 Club TV program, said.
