Gov’t soldiers, NPA rebels clash in Iriga City

LEGAZPI CITY – An encounter between Army soldiers and a group of suspected New People’s Army rebels ensued Wednesday morning in a  remote village in Iriga City in Camarines Sur, police said.

Joint elements of the military and police mobile force were on a combat operation when they chanced upon the suspected rebels in Barangay Sta. Isabel at 6:10 a.m., said Chief Insp. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, spokesperson of the Bicol police.

She said the firefight was ongoing as of posting time. MAR S. ARGUELLES
