President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday announced he is going to fire an undersecretary due to corruption allegations.
“When I go back (to Manila), I will fire another undersecretary for corruption,” Duterte said in his speech in an event in Davao City.
The President made the remark just days after firing Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) Secretary-General Falconi Millar.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said earlier Monday that Millar got axed because of an extortion case filed before the Office of the President (OP).
Panelo said a company, which HUDCC owes money from, accused Millar of demanding “grease money” in exchange for the release of the payment.
He added the company, which he did not name yet, did not comply with Millar’s demand and instead lodged an “affidavit” or a complaint at the OP.
Duterte has vowed to eradicate corruption in his administration, but some critics questioned this pronouncement after some of the dismissed officials were given new posts.
Last August, Duterte revealed he considered resigning after he became exasperated by rampant corruption in the government. /kga
