The plot of television series “Ang Probinsyano” will not change, but the Philippine National Police (PNP) was given an assurance that the show has a “redeeming social value.”
On Monday, Senator Grace Poe said there may have been “some sort of pressure” on the television series after the PNP cried foul over the negative portrayal of cops in the show, but the only pressure was really for the producers to inform the PNP about the show’s “long-term plans.”
“Of course, there’s like some sort of pressure,” Poe said in an interview at the Senate. “Let’s be realistic, it will be much easier for the producers to have the cooperation of the agency they’re trying to portray.”
“Ngayon (Now), the pressure that came to this is probably the producers had to tell them their long-term plans,” she said.
Asked in a separate text message to elaborate on her statement, Poe said the producers did not disclose the details of the negotiations but said they assured the PNP that “like most plots, there is a redeeming social value.”
“Magtatagumpay ang kabutihan (Goodness will triumph),” she added.
Poe is the daughter the late actor Fernando Poe Jr. who was the first to portray the lead role in “Ang Probinsyano.”
The lead actor of the series now is Coco Martin while the senator’s mother, veteran actress Susan Roces, also plays a character in the series.
In the interview, Poe categorically denied that the show gave in to pressure from the PNP and changed the plot.
“Ah hindi. Alam niyo bago pa nangyari ito, syempre medyo alam ko to dahil base rin ito sa pelikula ni Fernando Poe Jr. (No. I know this because the plot is based on the movie of Fernado Poe Jr.),” she said.
“Bago ka naman gumawa ng teleserye, meron ka ng umpisa, gitna at pagtatapos. Kung in-extend man iyan, kailangan ang istorya mo ay buo na rin kahit papaano.”
(Before you do a television series, you already have a beginning, a middle and end. If you extend the story, it should still tie in with the original plot.)
“Nagkataon lahat itong nangyari pero mayroon naman talagang pagbabago, hindi binago dahil lamang diniktahan.”
(It just happened by chance. There are really some changes in the story, but not because it was dictated.)
Poe, who chairs the Senate committee on public information and mass media, said she herself would not allow the story to be changed only to appease certain people. /ee
