Davao del Norte village chief, aide slain in gun attack

DAVAO CITY – A village official and his bodyguard were killed in an armed attack on the island city of Samal, Davao del Norte at 7:30 pm on Sunday, authorities on Monday said.

Paulito Villaceran Jr., village chief of Barangay Sion in Samal’s Kaputian district and his security aide Johnny Caro were declared dead on arrival at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Davao City Sunday night, a report from the Davao del Norte police office said.

Villaceran and his wife were at the porch of their house at Purok Avocado, Barangay Sion, when two men barged in and started shooting.

The slain official’s wife and three others–Randy Inday, Josephine Comendador and Mario Cagasan, were wounded and were undergoing treatment, police said.

Police recovered at the crime scene a dozen spent shells and three slugs from bullets of a caliber 45 pistol. Frinston Lim, Inquirer Mindanao
