Pasay police intel chief killed in shootout with jail escapee

The chief of the Intel Section of the Pasay City Police was killed in an armed encounter with a prisoner linked to the murder of a Grab driver.

The report from the Southern Police District stated that the Intel Section of the Pasay City Police led by Senior Insp. Manuel Taytayon Jr. conducted an operation Sunday afternoon to apprehend Narc Tulod Delemios, who escaped from Pasay City Jail.

The operation to arrest Delemios stemmed from a tip  that the suspect was hiding at the Don Carlos Revilla Village in Barangay 148, Zone 16, in Pasay City.

As the intel operatives arrived at the fourth floor of the building where the suspect was hiding, Delemios, upon seeing the operatives, fired at the police personnel, hitting Taytayon.

Although wounded, Taytayon retaliated and an exchange of fire ensued between the operatives and the armed fugitive.

Delemios died during the encounter while Taytayon, who suffered from multiple gunshot wounds, was rushed to San Juan De Dios Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.

Suspect’s victims

Delemios had gained notoriety for his alleged role in the killings of Gerardo Maquidato Jr., who had been named one of Grab’s best driver-partners for helping a sick passenger, in October 2017 and 19-year-old Gino Balbuena in 2014.

Maquidato was found dead inside his van in Pasay City with a gunshot wound in his head, while Balbuena was reportedly shot dead by the suspect who got irked when the victim accidentally hit him with his elbow as they were playing basketball.

Following his arrest in 2017, Delemios escaped from the city jail on Aug. 14. The jail warden, Supt. Bernie Ruiz, and six custodial officers were relieved after his disappearance. /ee /atm
