In separate incidents, an Army reservist and a retired Army personnel were arrested last Sunday for the alleged unauthorized firing of their guns, the police said on Tuesday.
The Army reservist, identified as 46-year-old Jorge Fernandez, was arrested by Makati police for allegedly firing his gun during an argument with his neighbors.
Police said the incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m., Sunday, at Barangay Southside in Makati, where the residents reportedly saw Fernandez opening fire.
Fernandez was arrested because he was not able to provide a permit to carry his firearm outside of his residence, though he was able to show his license to own and possess firearms.
Police confiscated a .45-caliber pistol with 22 rounds of ammunition, three magazines, and an empty shell for a .45-caliber pistol.
In another incident in the same barangay, a retired Army personnel identified as 65-year-old Lazaro Fang was arrested for pointing a gun at a group of men at 10:45 p.m.
Fang was arrested because he failed to show his authority to carry the firearm.
Police seized from Fang a .45-caliber pistol with five rounds of ammunition and a magazine for the pistol.
Both suspects were subjected for inquest proceedings on Monday for cases of alarm and scandal, grave threat and violations of the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition, or Republic Act No. 10591. /atm
