The San Juan city council will start its probe this week to find out if the management of a shopping mall in the city has liability in the parking lot accident that involved Senator Grace Poe’s father-in-law, a police official said on Monday.

Senior Superintendent Dindo Reyes, chief of the San Juan City police, told INQUIRER.net that the San Juan city council plans to file a resolution urging for a probe on the parking lot incident at Greenhills shopping mall which occurred last Sunday.

“Kausap ko kanina yung city council ng San Juan City, magpapasa sila ng resolution to conduct an investigation in aid of legislation kung mayroong pananagutan yung management ng Greenhills,” Reyes told INQUIRER.net in an interview.

Reyes said that the investigation, which will start within this week, most likely this Wednesday, aims to determine whether the parking barriers and the parking stoppers placed by the management were up to standard.

“Ngayon titingnan din natin, sa Wednesday makikita, kasi ipapatawag ng city council ‘yung contractor at saka yung management kung tama yung inilagay nilang parking barrier materials na nandoon pati ‘yung stopper na nakalagay,” Reyes said.

“Within this week magkakaroon ng investigation yung city council at ipapatawag yung mga concerned offices para malaman kung ano yung talagang dapat na design at kung ‘yung bang facility ng parking ay nasa standard,” he added.

The San Juan City Police chief said that one of the issues the police saw during their investigation was the stoppers installed in the parking facility.

“Siguro ang masasabi ko, ‘yung stopper dapat dalawa ‘yun, yung nakalagay doon ay isa lang,” he said.

Reyes said that one of the goals of the investigation is to raise the recommendation that senior citizens should park on the ground level of the parking lot.

“Gusto nilang makita sa kanilang mga rekomendasyon na ‘yung mga senior citizen na nagda-drive ay kung pwede sa ground level na lang ilagay,” he said.

On Sunday morning, Poe’s father-in-law, 83-year-old Teodoro Paraiso Llamanzares, was reportedly injured and brought to Cardinal Santos Medical Center after his Toyota Innova fell from the third level of a parking lot at the Greenhills shopping mall.

The San Juan City Police chief said Llamanzares is in a stable condition.

“Nasa hospital pa sa ngayon, naka-confine siya pero nasa stable namang condition,” he said. /je
