MORE than a thousand runners joined Philippine Red Cross’ running events held simultaneously in two different places in Cebu yesterday.
The Million Volunteer: A Run For Humanity Run was held separately in Lapu-Lapu City and Cebu City.
Race director Joel Baring said the running event was successful after local running clubs gave their full support for Red Cross’ advocacy to aide its volunteer members deployed in different barangays and cities in the country.
The Cebu City edition that started at the Cebu Business Park featured a competitive race while the Lapu-Lapu race, which kicked off at the Lapu-Lapu City Hall, was a non-competitive run.
Kenyan Josphat Too topped the men’s side of the Cebu City 10k competition while Madelyn Carter ruled the women’s division.
Too finished in 40 minutes and 31 seconds while Carter clocked 53:11.
Lovely Fe Andrin downed veteran runners to top the 6k category with a time of 30:08 while Jess Gonzaga placed first in the 6k men’s side (21:10).
Roland Batiancila and Lily Kim finished first in the non-competitive 5k category of the Lapu-Lapu edition.
A total of 1,363 runners joined the cause of Red Cross with 380 of the number of runners composed of students and 963 regular runners. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
