A tropical depression is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Sunday afternoon, the state weather bureau said on Saturday.
As of 11 a.m., the center of the tropical depression was last spotted at 1,585 kilometers east of Mindanao, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
The tropical depression is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 60 kph.
Pagasa said the tropical depression will have no direct effect in the country. The tropical depression on entering PAR will be named “Samuel.”
Pagasa added that the weather disturbance may further turn into a tropical storm “as it continues to move generally westward in the next 2 to 3 days.” /muf
