ZAMBOANGA CITY – Five soldiers were killed in a clash with Abu Sayyaf terrorists in Barangay (village) Liang, Patikul town in Sulu at around 4:10 pm on Friday, the military reported.
Colonel Gerry Besana, public affairs officer of the military’s Western Mindanao Command, said more than 50 Abu Sayyaf terrorists clashed with troopers of the 41st Infantry Battalion in a firefight that lasted for an hour and 30 minutes. The clash also left 23 other troopers injured.
Besana said 15 of the wounded soldiers were airlifted to Zamboanga City for further medical treatment. /muf
