President Rodrigo Duterte has promoted a police official who is touted by many as one of the brains behind the government’s controversial anti-illegal drug campaign “Oplan Tokhang.”
According to his appointment paper released by Malacañang, Police Director Camilo Cascolan, who was among the officers who drafted the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) anti-illegal drugs campaign plan, was promoted to deputy director general last October 31.
Cascolan is currently the chief of the PNP Civil Security Group.
He belongs to the Philippine Military Academy Sinagtala Class of 1986, which also counts former and current PNP chiefs Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa and Oscar Albayalde as members.
Cascolan was named National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief in April but was immediately replaced by Director Guillermo Eleazar.
Duterte also promoted Rear Admirals Joel Garcia and Rolando Legaspi to Vice Admiral of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Oct. 31.
Garcia and Legaspi are currently serving as PCG deputy commandants for administration and operations, respectively. /jpv
