Despite being a known ally of President Rodrigo Duterte, senatorial aspirant Serge Osmeña said on Tuesday he would not be seeking the President’s help to boost his survey rankings.
According to him, he is running as an independent candidate but said he would be thankful if the President will give his endorsement.
“I’m running as an independent eh so I don’t want to ask,” he said in an interview with ABS CBN News Channel.
“But if he endorses, well I can’t do anything about it, I just have to say thank you,” he added.
Osmeña admitted that while the endorsement of the President may truly help him secure a Senate seat in the midterm elections next year, he said that he is okay if the President will not help him.
Osmeña placed 11th among senatorial bets in a pre-election survey conducted by Pulse Asia in September.
Reelectionist Senator Grace Poe ranked 1st in the survey with 70.1 voting percentage. /muf
