Enrile on Senate run: Neither for fame nor material reward
Former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile said he was seeking a Senate comeback not for honor or material reward.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Enrile informed the public why he would be running for the Senate in 2019 and how he would conduct his campaign.
“I wish everyone to know this. I am one of the candidates for the Senate in next year’s senatorial election,” he said.
“I am not running to gain any honor or material reward. I am running for the Senate to perform a public service to the nation and to the Filipino people,” Enrile said.
The former senator also said he would not spend a large amount of money to get a seat in the Senate.

His campaign, he said, would be simple as he would only put up a “skeletal” campaign staff, and would use the “least amount of propaganda.”
“My plan is to enlist and rely on the goodwill of volunteers from the ranks of my relatives, friends, and supporters. I welcome the assistance of those who care to help me,” Enrile said.
“By and large, I will depend on the Internet, the social media, cellular telephones, and other legitimate channels of communications to reach out to our people and bring to them my messages, issues, and proposals,” he added.
The 94-year -old Enrile ended the post with a slogan, “Subok na, matalas pa. Gusto nya HAPPY KA.”
Enrile, along with former Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., has been charged and detained over the alleged pork barrel scam.
Enrile and Estrada are out on bail while Revilla remained in detention at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
All three have filed their certificates of candidacy for next year’s senatorial race. /cbb
