Iranian drives without license, hits 3 cars in Banilad road mishap
AN IRANIAN national was arrested after the car he was driving hit three vehicles in barangay Banilad, Cebu City, at dawn yesterday.
Police said Kaveh Saeedishahkileh, 28, was driving under the influence of liquor during the incident. He drove a Mitsubishi Galant sedan.
The Iranian did not have a driver’s license and could only present a photocopied student permit.
The foreigner is a student of a Cebu City university and lives in sitio Nasipit, barangay Talamban, Cebu City. He was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center after the incident and tested positive for alcohol, said Chief Insp. Aureo Sanchez, chief of the traffic division of the Cebu City police.
The student was detained at the Cebu City Police Office while waiting for charges to be filed against him.
Saeedishahkileh’s cousin Mehdi questioned the arrest, saying Kaveh already reached an amicable settlement with the owners of the damaged cars.
Article continues after this advertisementMehdi’s said that his wife, a Filipina lawyer, will fly in from Manila today to assist Kaveh.
Article continues after this advertisementSanchez said the agreement reached by both parties was still informal and Kaveh could still be held liable for driving drunk and without license.
Mehdi said the police should give Kaveh some humanitarian consideration since he is suffering from diabetes.
“I am afraid that he might die in jail because of his illness,” said Mehdi.
