Duterte appoints Karlo Nograles as Cabinet Secretary — Palace
President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Davao City Rep. Karlo Alexei Nograles as the next Cabinet Secretary who will replace former Secretary Leoncio “Jun” Evasco, Malacañang confirmed Monday.
Evasco filed his Certificate of Candidacy as Bohol governor on October 16.
“The former congressman Karlo Nograles will be taking his oath of office this [Monday] afternoon as Cabinet secretary,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a Palace briefing.
Asked why Duterte had chosen Nograles, Panelo said, “He enjoys the trust and confidence of the appointing power, the President.”
Nograles was initially included in the possible senatorial slate of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) for the 2019 midterm elections, but he later said that he would no longer run in next year’s elections.
He is on his third and final term as Davao City Representative. /je
