A memorial park remembering the people who lost their lives during the onslaught of Supertyphoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan) was inaugurated in Tacloban City, Leyte province.
The Yolanda memorial park is in the compound of Tacloban Convention Center, which served as an evacuation center that took in about 8,000 people.
The P5-million memorial park serves as the center of activities every anniversary of the tragedy.
At the center of the park is a 7-meter steel marker shaped like the No. 8, indicating the date when the typhoon struck and representing the storm surge that devastated the city.
A symbol of the earth is found at the center of the marker to remind people to protect it to prevent natural disasters.

The province of Marinduque was annexed to the province of Tayabas (now Quezon) by virtue of Act No. 499, almost five months after the islands of Mindoro and Lubang (now part of Occidental Mindoro) were made part of Marinduque.
On Feb. 21, 1920, Marinduque was separated from Tayabas to become a province again through Act No. 2880.
The province is composed of six municipalities, with Boac as its capital.
