Nov. 4 to 11: International Rondalla Festival
The City of Silay in Negros Occidental province is this year’s host of the 5th International Rondalla Festival initiated by the national music committee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
Dubbed the “Cuerdas sang Paghiliusa (Strings of Unity),” the festival will gather about 300 string musicians from 14 countries, including China, India, Iran, Japan, Mexico and Russia.
There will be conferences, workshops and exhibitions showcasing the music culture of Silay and outreach performances in schools, orphanages, hospitals and prisons.
Nov. 5: Negros Day
The province of Negros Occidental celebrates its 120th Cinco de Noviembre to commemorate the uprising of the residents led by Gen. Aniceto Lacson and Gen. Juan Araneta against Spanish forces.
This year’s theme is “Kahilwayan kag Paghidaet: Dalan Padulong sa Kauswagan” (“Independence and Peace: Road to Prosperity”).
Nov. 5 has been declared a special nonworking holiday in the province through Republic Act No. 6709, signed by President Corazon Aquino on Feb. 10, 1989.
Nov. 9 to 13: Hinabyog Festival
Residents in the town of Esperanza in Sultan Kudarat province celebrate the town’s diverse culture and traditions.
The festival’s name came from the Ilonggo term “hinabyog,” which means swing.
Events include street dancing, cultural show, beauty pageant and sports competitions.
