The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has deployed K-9 units at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in preparation for the influx of passengers for this year’s ‘Undas’ (All Saints Day and All Souls Day).
At least nine dogs were seen randomly inspecting the luggage of passengers as they check for the presence of illegal drugs.
Ruel Lasala, PDEA Deputy Director General for Operation, said they have started the inspections last Monday. He said no illegal drugs have yet been detected.
“So far ilang araw na, nagstart nung monday. Wala pa tayong nadedetect na droga kahit sa ibang bahagi ng Pilipinas,” he told reporters at NAIA Terminal 3 on Wednesday.
Aside from airports nationwide, surprise inspection in bus terminals and ports have also been done. /muf
