7 dead, 4 hurt in Pangasinan road accidents

DAGUPAN CITY — Seven persons died while four others were injured in separate road accidents on Monday (Oct. 29) and Tuesday (Oct. 30) in Pangasinan province, police said on Wednesday.

A man, who was not identified, died on the way to a hospital after his motorcycle crashed at the provincial road in Barangay (village) Zone 3 in Rosales town at 11:10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police said the man used the motorcycle without the owner’s knowledge after they shared a drink at the neighboring village of Tomana East.

Earlier in Bayambang town, three students were hurt when the tricycle they were riding hit an electric post at 7:50 p.m. Mark L-Jay Sison, 16, Joana Marie Gagabi, 17, and Benjo Dumaoal, 18, are now being treated at a hospital.

In Labrador town, a Grade 8 student was killed after an ambulance hit her as she crossed a road in Barangay Uyong about 6:30 p.m. Lyka Lorejas, 13, was dead when she reached the Lingayen District Hospital, where rescuers took her.

The ambulance driver is now under police custody.

Also on Tuesday in Pozorrubio town, a 40-year-old man was killed when his motorcycle fell into a canal about 4:45 p.m. in Barangay Imbalbalatong.

Marvin Sosing was immediately taken to the Pozorrubio Community Hospital but a doctor there declared him dead on arrival.

Police said Sosing was traversing the village road when he lost control of his steering handle and headed straight into the 6-meter deep canal.

In Manaoag town, a waiter was killed after his motorcycle hit a steel pole and crashed into the road’s gutter at 1:20 a.m. in Barangay Pao on Tuesday.

Rose Mark Soria, 22, suffered head injuries. He died while being taken to the Manaoag Community Hospital.

In Mangatarem town, a still unidentified man was killed after he was thrown off from the tricycle he was driving in Barangay Pogonlomboy at 12:40 a.m.

The tricycle hit a mound of sand and gravel along the road as he sped through the Romulo Highway.

Rescuers took the man to the Mangatarem District Hospital but a doctor there pronounced him dead on arrival.

At 8:10 p.m. on Monday in Santa Maria town, the driver and one of the passengers of a sports utility vehicle were killed when their vehicle crashed into the rear of a 10-wheeler dump truck in Barangay Pilar.

Shieldon Estrada, 37, driver, and Jesus Cariaga, 23, did not reach the hospital alive after they were rescued.

The other SUV passenger, Domingo Estrada, 33, is now being treated in a hospital./lb
