MMDA orders advertisers to roll down tarps amid threat of ‘Rosita’

To ensure the safety of motorists, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Danilo Lim on Monday ordered advertisers to roll down tarpaulins due to the threat of Typhoon ‘Rosita.’

Lim’s directive came after the state weather bureau issued Typhoon Signal No. 1 over Metro Manila due to Rosita.

“In anticipation of typhoon Rosita, we directed billboard owners to take down their tarpaulins, especially the big ones, for the safety of both motorists and commuters,” Lim said in a statement.

Lim also serves as the chair of the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC).

MMDRRMC’s Michael Salalima, meanwhile, said that the agency is set to coordinate with MMDA to monitor the possible effects of the typhoon.

“We do not want to wait for heavy rains to fall before advertisers begin taking down their billboards to avoid the possible damage they might cause,” Salalima said. /ee
