Suspected robber killed in Batangas shootout
SAN PEDRO CITY—An unidentified suspected robber was killed in a shootout shortly after allegedly committing a robbery in San Jose town in Batangas province on Friday, police said Saturday.
Police said the shootout happened at about 10:35 p.m. in Barangay (village) Aguila.
Investigation showed that prior to the shootout, the suspect, along with an unidentified cohort, allegedly robbed Gommer Abrenica at gunpoint.
The suspects then took Abrenica’s cash and cell phone before escaping aboard a motorcycle.
Police said that as the suspects were leaving the scene, a team of policemen were on patrol and gave chase towards Barangay Aguila.
On reaching the barangay, police said the suspects opened fire at the pursuing officers, triggering the shootout.
Article continues after this advertisementOne of the suspects was immediately killed while his companion managed to escape on foot, police said.
Recovered from the slain suspect was a caliber .357 revolver and a motorcycle. /muf
