3 quakes hit off Davao Occidental

A magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck off Davao Occidental on Thursday evening, hours after two more tremors hit the area, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The latest offshore quake recorded at 7:22 p.m. was centered 244 kilometers southeast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

Tectonic in origin, the tremblor had a shallow depth of 13 kilometers.

At 4:52 p.m., another earthquake was recorded with a magnitude of 3.5. It struck 350 kilometers southeast of Sarangani.

About two hours earlier at 2:54 p.m., a 3.1 magnitude quake hit 81 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from these quakes.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
