A new typhoon continued to move toward the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday but forecast models show it was not likely to make landfall.
Typhoon Yutu (international name) was last spotted 2,555 kilometers east of the Visayas, moving west-northwest at 20 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
It was packing maximum sustained winds of 160 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 195 kph.
Weather specialist Ariel Rojas said Yutu might enter the PAR on Saturday or Sunday.
It’s unlikely to hit land but he advised the public to continue to monitor weather updates.
Meanwhile, Rojas said the northeast monsoon or hanging amihan may be felt starting at the end of the week to early next week. /cbb
