Guevarra: DOJ to decide next legal step on Trillanes case

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Tuesday said the Department of Justice (DOJ) will decide what legal actions to take following a Makati City Regional Trial Court’s decision to deny their motion to arrest Senator Antonio Trillanes IV for the 2003 Oakwood mutiny.

“It is the DOJ who will decide what legal step to take,” Guevarra said in a text message to reporters.

Malacañang earlier announced that Solicitor General Jose Calida will question Makati City RTC Branch 148’s decision at the Court of Appeals.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Calida will no longer file a motion for reconsideration before the lower court.

Guevarra said he will discuss the DOJ’s next course of action with acting Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon within the day.

“We will have to discuss our strategy together with PG Fadullon,” Guevarra said. /ee
